The program is a quaternary referral center and the only university hospital in the state of Iowa. Surgical procedures are at the 99th percentile for complexity compared to academic programs across the country. Highlights of this residency program include a longitudinal simulation curriculum of 30 scenarios, an opportunity for senior residents to manage operating rooms at all times, dedicated resident academic days, and early subspecialty exposure.
